John Graham Mellor, better known as Joe Strummer, was a British singer, musician, and songwriter who lived from August 21, 1952, to December 22, 2002. He was a member of the 1976-formed punk music band the Clash as well as its co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist, and co-lead vocalist.
